Top 5 Tips for Moving in Tulsa and Oklahoma City When You're a Retiree

Many of us look forward to being retired. After many years of working hard, we can finally kick our feet up, rest, and enjoy the rewards of our labors. Some find that when they get to senior citizen status that they now need to move. Maybe it is because they do not need the room in their Tulsa and Oklahoma City house with their children now adults and moved out, perhaps it is because they're now living on a fixed income, or maybe they want to finally plant roots in that warmer climate they have always dreamt about. Whatever your reason for moving once you reach retiree status, it's imperative to give the task some careful consideration.

Tip #1: Ponder Moving in the Fall or Winter

A big advantage of being a retiree is that you’re no longer constrained by the same schedule restrictions as people who need to work. You want to go to the store on a Wednesday morning? Go ahead, you are the master of your schedule. Want to watch a movie matinee while everyone else has to work? Enjoy the motion picture! And should you choose to move, then you can do so in the off-season, when demand and costs are both at their lowest.

Summer is the busiest time for moving for a lot of reasons (mild weather, the kids are done with school, etc.), and as a result is is also the most expensive time to move. The months before or months after this peak can save you lots of money.

Tip #2: If You Don't Have to Have It, Don't Take It

The more years you live in your home, the more clutter you accumulate. Everything, from sweaters you haven't worn in years, to papers from a job you barely recollect, fills in the nooks and crannies in your home. So, before your move, have a culling. Ask yourself if you have used the thing in the last five years. If you haven't, you surely don't need it. So, sell it, donate it, give it away to friends or family, but if you don't have to have it, don't move it.

Tip #3: Make a Plan

Moving should not be done on the fly, especially as a retiree. You have to take your time, do your research, and ensure you have everything in order. You need to know your destination, how you are planning on getting there, if you should hire a professional Tulsa and Oklahoma City mover, your timeline, and most importantly, you need to have the costs figured out to the last dollar. And, just to be extra cautious, you should have a Plan B in place, just in case something changes, or doesn't work out the way you want or need it to.

Tip #4: Be Prepared

Planning is when you write down your goals; preparation is when you start the groundwork. When you prepare for a move, you are paring down your belongings, setting aside money for the moving expenses, deciding when to list your house, etc. Preparation is the second part of the three-act play that is a move.

Tip #5: Slow Down

Moving is not something be done hurriedly. Decisions need to be weighed carefully, and you should have all the information on-hand before deciding on anything. Additionally you should make time to prepare and resolve any loose ends that remain before you say goodbye and head off toward your destination. There's no need to rush, so go at a gait you're comfortable with.

Very pleased with the overall respect and care the men gave to my possessions. Even mailing me very quickly the only thing lost in transit. Would recommend to anyone needing a long distant move.
